Pam Baker Hillcrest Farms LTD - Horse training, equestrians, VHSA, USEF

Pam Baker

Pam has spent a lifetime in the horse business. She dedicated herself first to learning, and then teaching the art and craft of horsemanship. Captain Vladmir S. Littauer and Clayton Bailey, both early proponents of the forward seat style of riding, influenced her development as a master trainer. Her clients range from pony riders to adult amateurs and working hunters.

Pam's Philosophy as a Trainer
"If my horses and riders look happy and relaxed and are also winning, then I am doing my job as a trainer." She goes on to say, "I feel very passionately that my clients can be more than just riders; that they should strive for excellence in horsemanship as well." According to Pam, winning is the natural by-product of good riding and good horsemanship. "I start with the basics and help my riders develop a system of true communication with their horses. They end up with a deep empathetic relationship with their horses as well as the physical skills needed to compete at the very highest levels."

Pam was voted VHSA Horseperson of the Year in 1989 and was inducted into the VHSA Hall of Fame in 2002.

In 2007 Pam was awarded the AHJH Lifetime Achievement Award.

She was formally on the Board of Directors of the VHSA (at large member). She is also a past USEF "Zone 3" Committee Member, and was the "Leading Trainer" at the Upperville Horse Show . Pam also has served on the VHSA "Zone 2" and Junior Horse Committees, as well as being past Chairperson of the Junior Hunter Committee of the USEF. In 2007 Pam was awarded the AHJH Lifetime Achievement Award.

Pam has guided Champions and Reserve Champions in all of the major East Coast "AA" Shows, including HITS, Palm Beach, Devon, Harrisburg, Upperville, Warrenton, Washington and New York to name a few.

Pam wrote a series of articles for The Practical Horseman that explained her theories and methods of teaching. She has also been widely interviewed and quoted in many other equestrian publications.
